STUDY SITE
Owned by the Department of Wildlife Resources, Lake Shenandoah in Harrisonburg, Virginia is a 36 acre shallow lake that provides beautiful scenery within the residential city landscape. Dammed on one end of the lake, with the largest depths at approximately 25 feet, the lake faces many problems related to runoff and nutrient pollution from nearby residential areas and a local golf course. ​The lake is stocked for family fishing with catfish, largemouth bass, common carp, and a few other fish species.

Pollinator Trail
I will be following the pollinator trail more closely. What was once mowed grass area, has recently been able to flourish into a pollinator's paradise. The trail is an easily accessible 1.5 mile trail that returns to its starting point back near the parking lot. The trail has increased biodiversity for not only native plant species and pollinators, but also other bird, amphibian, reptile, and mammal species now trek through its natural landscape or call it home. Follow along with me as we explore the trail this summer.
