What Can You Do?

Now that you are in love with the beautiful habitats surrounding Lake Shenandoah, you are likely feeling compelled to do something. Small things you can do would include managing your waste. Consider creating multiple recycling bins to sort your waste and create a compost bin. Limit runoff by creating a more diverse yard to support wildlife rather than a grass yard, wash your car at a local carwash rather than on your driveway, and avoid using chemicals such as pesticides and fertilizers.

If you have more lofty goals, I encourage you to set up a non-profit that tracks local diversity of pollinators and other wildlife or set up a non-profit mail service that shares and trades native plant seeds to support pollinators. If you live in Virginia and are looking for a guide to set up your very own nonprofit you can visit the document I have created here or go directly to the Chamber of Commerce webpage here.
